A WALK TO REMEMBER

This is a heartwarming story where the main characters, Landon Carter and Jaime Sullivan partake on a journey of falling in love and doing many wonderful things together. Landon is a typical popular boy turning into adulthood unsure on what he wants in life; he is without a date for his upcoming dance and he is running out of time. Jaime on the other hand is an unpopular student; daughter of a minister, and a very sweet girl with a strong faith in the Bible. They both agree to go to the dance together as long as Landon participates in a play she was participating in. During the story, we can notice that Landon mistreats Jaime because he cares too much about what his peers think of the relationship he is having with her. But Jaime who is so sweet and merciful is able to pardon Landon for his actions even though she was deeply hurt. Jamie possesses the quality of forgiveness something that makes Landon falls in love with her. Even though, she has been hurt bad, Jaime falls in love with Landon because he is willing to change. Now, during their journey they are inseparable and spend all of their time together sharing beautiful things; but Jaime has been keeping a secret from Landon; that is she has been struggling for the past two years with cancer and her body is no longer responding to the treatment. When Landon found out about this he devotes himself in helping Jaime to carry her heavy burden. But I cannot tell you more for you to read this beautiful story. What I can say is that we should not let ourselves be misled because of what people think. I invite you to become friend of the characters even though they are literary characters, you can learn so mucho about them. You will be able to learn about unconditional love, to treat other with respect, being merciful and many others qualities and values that we should display in our daily life. Of course, like the typical Nicholas Sparks’ story the book has a sad ending so don’t forget to have a tissue box near by. By the way, here I want to share with you my favorite part of the book expressed by Landon; it can help us to meditate:

“We kissed again, too, though not every time we were together, and I didn’t even think of trying to make it to second base. There wasn’t any need to. There was something nice when I kissed her, something gentle and right, and that was enough for me. The more I did it, the more I realized that Jamie had been misunderstood her entire life, not only by me, but by everyone.”
